Telling stories through photography and design.
Telling stories through photography and design.
Storyline Creatives is a Philadelphia-based collaborative studio co-founded by photographer and writer Tieshka K. Smith and graphic designer and illustrator Beth Miner. Working at the intersection of photography and design, this partnership creates visual narratives that center memory, place, and community through thoughtful, research-informed collaboration; and projects that invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and engage more deeply with the stories unfolding around them.
The partnership was formed through shared work on Compositions of Black Joy and the 2023 exhibit titled Documenting the Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival, where a mutual commitment to narrative integrity, public-facing work, and community engagement solidified their collaboration.
Beth Miner's design work is grounded in education, advocacy, and environmental awareness. She has spent over a decade working with mission-driven organizations, artists, and small businesses to translate values, knowledge, and data into compelling visual assets. Through her studio, Mayapple Graphics, she merges hand illustration, technical design skills, and branding expertise to help clients and partners clarify stories and amplify impact.
Tieshka Smith’s documentary practice explores Black memory, civic identity, and class through an intimate lens rooted in bearing witness to the everyday. Her work spans photography, writing, teaching, and community-based arts practice, with a deep foundation in project management, grant development, and trauma-informed engagement.
Compositions of Black Joy: A Visual Chronicle of the Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival (2015–2022) is a stunning, full-color photo book that celebrates the richness of Black culture, community, and resistance through the lens of a beloved northwest Philadelphia tradition. Spanning seven years of the Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival in Germantown, this volume honors Black families, joyful celebration, cultural commerce, and grassroots activism and captures the evolution of this annual event for a community that continues to gather, resist, and rejoice.
